By the way Craig, I agree with you that competition can have deleterious effects at times.

It can bring out the worst in us if we have the attitude of winning at all costs. It can also bring out the best in us, especially when we compete against ourselves or our previous best performance.

I certainly prefer win/win situations and giving good value for money, or in kind. There is a lot of satisfaction to be gained from helping others whenever practical.

We may never be rewarded directly for kindness that we show to others. But there will probably be times in our lives when somebody will kindly assist us and we may not be able to repay them directly.

This used to be a way of life years ago but, as you point out, the emphasis on competition nowadays has a tendency to kill off kind deeds and cause feelings such as resentment instead of happiness.

Thank you for this comment Craig. I love your sense of humor! :)

The reason that I mentioned the fact that we are all winners in some way or other is because a lot of people tend to think that they are losers and this often makes them depressed.

When we realize that we are indeed winners in certain areas of our lives, and we do have talents that other people may not have, we have a tendency for our spirits to lift and for depression to dissipate.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that gratitude certainly is a great tool for improving our moods.

I have a choice whether to like this post or not like it, but I choose to like it.

The only problem that I can see with this article is that you mention "So you are a winner". I feel that competition has a negative impact for happiness. In my opinion the world would be happier place without so much competition.

Anyway, time for me to listen to some music and have a dance, lol.
